Stony Mountain Ranch & Livestock

About Us
Stony Mountain Ranch, located in Sheridan, Oregon, specializes in New Zealand, purebred, percentage, and commercial Kiko goats. In addition to goat stock, the ranch also produces local Willamette Valley Grass Hay.
Goats
Kiko goats are hardy, low-maintenance goats that excel in various climates and terrain. Renowned for their parasite resistance, excellent mothering abilities, and hoof health, Kiko goats are a valuable addition to any farming operation. As a meat goat breed, Kikos have a rapid rate of gain and can be ready for market with lower inputs than many other goat breeds. Meat goat ranchers often choose to enhance their program with Kiko genetics. Kikos are also an excellent choice for those new to goats as they tend to kid unassisted and are easy keepers. Mixing Kiko goats in with cattle or horses benefits pasture health as they will consume undesirable weeds, shrubs, or trees and their adaptability makes them good companion stock. At Stony Mountain Ranch, our Kiko goats have both Livestock Guardian Dogs and mustangs as guardians, and they adapt well to either situation.

Hay
We produce Willamette Valley grass hay for pickup off the field in June and July. Grasses planted include Fawn Fescue, Potomac Orchard Grass, Tetraploid Perrennial Rye Grass, and Gulf Annual Rye. We also have a smaller field containing Kenland Perrennial Clover, Climax Timothy, and Gulf Annual Rye that we use to supplement our goats with during the winter.

Mustangs
We maintain our own small herd of mustangs for personal use, but occasionally one of our daughters will enter the Teens and Oregon Mustang Challenge. While the competition is on, we will post to this site or provide links to their mustang pages where they provide updates on their mustangs which will be available for auction at the end of the competition.
